They're Almost One.

I don’t know how it happens so fast.
One minute you’re counting tiny fingers in the hospital. The next minute you’re chasing a giggling baby who suddenly has opinions… and maybe a few teeth.

That first year is a blur.
The sleepless nights.
The first smiles.
The first time they said “mama.” The first steps.
And then suddenly… they’re turning one.
Smash cake sessions aren’t really about the cake.
They’re about freezing this in-between stage —when they’re still baby, but just barely.
Why I Love First Birthday Sessions
There is something different about one-year-olds.

They’re expressive. They clap for themselves. They look at you like you are their entire world.
During these sessions, I see so much personality come out.
Some babies dive straight into the cake. Some cautiously poke it with one finger. Some look at their parents like, “Is this allowed?”
And then there’s the bubble bath at the end.
Honestly? That’s usually when we get the biggest smiles.
The splashing. The belly laughs. The little wet curls stuck to their forehead.
It’s messy. It’s joyful. It’s real.
And parents almost always tell me afterward: “I’m so glad we did this.”
This Stage Doesn’t Come Back
Once they turn one, everything changes.

They start walking. They start running. They start becoming more independent.
This is the last moment before toddlerhood takes over.
And someday, when they’re five or ten or graduating high school, you’ll look at these photos and remember exactly who they were at one.
That’s why we do it.
Not for Pinterest. Not for social media.
For you.
If your baby is almost one, this is your gentle reminder that this season deserves to be remembered.
