What you can count on at every session
β
Safe, professional posing — Newborn safety is everything to me. Every pose I use is one I've practiced hundreds of times, and I never rush or force a position. If baby isn't comfortable, we try something else.
β
Studio lighting designed for newborns — Soft, warm, and flattering for those delicate features and brand-new skin tones.
β
Wraps, props, and backdrops included — I have a full studio stocked with wraps, blankets, headbands, baskets, and props. You don't need to bring anything except your baby and whatever they need to be comfortable (bottles, pacifier, a favorite swaddle).
β
A relaxed, no-rush pace — Sessions are scheduled for two hours, which gives us plenty of time for feeding breaks, soothing, outfit changes, and capturing a variety of beautiful setups without anyone feeling rushed.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where is your studio located?
We're in south Overland Park at 15489 Quivira, near 154th Street — easy access from 69 Highway and 435. It's a comfortable drive for families coming from Overland Park, Lenexa, Olathe, Shawnee, Leawood, and the Kansas City metro. The studio is by appointment only, so you'll always have the space entirely to yourselves.
When is the best time to schedule newborn photos?
The sweet spot is between 5 and 14 days after birth. During this window, newborns are still sleeping deeply, naturally curling into those beautiful compact poses, and are generally easier to work with. By around three weeks, babies become more alert and wakeful, which makes the deeper sleep poses trickier to achieve — though we can still absolutely work with older newborns, so don't panic if you're past that window.
The best time to book is while you're still pregnant, ideally in your second or early third trimester. We'll pick a target date based on your due date and adjust once baby actually arrives. Babies have their own timeline, and I'm always flexible.ββββ

What should I expect during the session?
Plan for up to two hours, though we often wrap up sooner. We'll start with family and sibling portraits, if we're including them, and then move to the posed newborn portraits — wrapped shots, basket poses, the classic sleepy baby images. I always leave time for a feeding or two, a diaper change, and whatever soothing your baby needs in between setups. There's no rushing here.
β
Most parents tell me afterward that it was a lot more relaxed than they expected. That's always the goal.
βββ
βCan parents and siblings be included?
Absolutely — and I love when they are. Some of the most treasured images from any newborn session are the ones with a parent cradling their baby, or a big sibling meeting the new addition for the first time. I have safe posing techniques specifically for including young children with newborns, so even a wobbly toddler isn't a problem.

β
How much does newborn photography cost in Overland Park?
Newborn photography in the Kansas City area typically ranges from $300–$1000+ depending on the photographer, session length, and how many images are included. At Happy Chick Photography, our packages fall comfortably within that range, with our highest package under $800. When you reach out, I'll send you our full Newborn Information packet with detailed pricing so you can see exactly what's included before committing to anything.β
β
How do I book?
Just reach out! A quick call or email is all it takes to get the conversation started. I'll answer any questions you have, walk you through the process, and get you on the calendar. I only book one newborn session per day, so spots — especially Saturdays — do fill up. The earlier you contact me, the more flexibility we'll have on timing.ββββ
