Best Time to Schedule Your Newborn Photography Session in Overland Park

One of the most common questions I get from Kansas City metro families is, "When should we actually book our newborn session?" The honest answer: earlier than you think. Newborn photography works best in that sleepy, curled-up window during the first 5 to 14 days of life, when babies still have that fresh, folded-up newness and sleep deeply enough for the cozy, posed portraits so many families love.

I always recommend reserving your newborn photography session during your second trimester, around 28 to 32 weeks. Babies don't wait for due dates, and newborn photography is one of the only genres where timing genuinely can't be rescheduled around a busy month. Booking early means I can plan around your estimated due date and get you in during that sweet spot, whether baby arrives right on time, a little early, or a little late.

What If We Miss That Newborn Window?

Life happens, and plenty of families reach out after the two-week mark. It's not the end of the world — we simply shift the approach. Sessions with babies 3 to 8 weeks old lean more toward candid, awake-eyes portraits and family connection shots rather than the deep, curled poses. Both styles are beautiful; they're just different, so it's worth mentioning your baby's age when you reach out so we can plan accordingly.
